K3: for 3 year old children:
Our youngest Early Childhood class is designed for the mature
3 year old child. It meets five days a week, offering the
choice of either a half-day program from 8: 15 am until noon,
or a five-day program from 8:15 A-M. until 2:45 pm The class
size is limited to 19 students, with one teacher and an assistant.
Children in this class are introduced to school life through
a variety of thematic activities which provide opportunities
for each child to work individually or in small informal groups,
with the teacher often taking the role of guide or facilitator
of student learning. Themes are introduced through projects
and interdisciplinary activities which - allow students to
make choices about their own learning and interests. Developing
social skills, gross and fine motor control, independence,
listening skills and self confidence are areas of focus in
our 3 year old program. Children in this class usually progress
to the "K4" class.
K4: for 4 year old children:
K4 runs Monday through Friday, from 8:15 am to 2:45 pm The
class size is limited to 19 students, with one teacher plus
an assistant. A variety of activities for large and small
groups are balanced with periods of less structured play situations.
The teachers assess and address the strengths of each child
and build on these strengths for future learning experiences.
The children's higher-level thinking skills and creativity
are stimulated through group work in the areas of language
arts and math, in addition to multidisciplinary thematic units.
The children's developing social skills enhance their ability
to communicate effectively and interact cooperatively. The
K4 program is the first level of formal education at the Garden
of the Sahaba Academy.
